Prerana Saraf is an Advocate holding a B.A LL.B. (Hons.) degree from School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore. She is an Associate with POSHequili. As a lawyer, she provides the legal know-how to the members of Internal Committee of any organisation, and assists in conducting the inquiry lawfully, systematically and practically. She is also currently working on creating an e-module on various important concepts under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 read with Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, and creating certification course on POSH Law for those aspiring to work in this field. Prerana has researched and published articles in various national and international legal journal on topics such as Marital Rape, Child Abuse, Medical Negligence Law in India and US, and Freedom of Speech guaranteed under the Indian Constitution, and has published a chapter on ‘RTI and Right to Privacy’ in NLSIU’s book titled ‘Good Governance: The RTI Way’. She has also recently written an article on ‘Navigating through the Challenges faced by Internal Committee during inquiry into sexual harassment complaints’. She is also currently researching on various aspects including on:

  • Maternity Law – A critical analysis of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, the ambiguity with respect to its coverage, placing full responsibility on the employers and the lack of proper process of implementation.
  • Creating an e-module on various important concepts under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 read with Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017.
  • Creating certification course on POSH Law for those aspiring to work in this field.
  • Transgender Law – An attempt to bring light to the challenges that transgenders face in having equal protection of law guaranteed under Article 14 of the Indian Constitution despite being recognized as the ‘third gender’.

Prerana has recently been recognized by Lead India Foundation as Power Woman for her efforts and contribution in the legal field. She has previously practised in the diverse fields of property law, corporate law, and family law. As a property lawyer, she has provided legal opinions on various residential and commercial properties, advised on the conversion and conveyance of properties, and has regularly advised clients on several aspects of property and commercial regulations. As part of her corporate practice, she has assisted several start-ups with incorporation of their entitles, drafting and reviewing of various commercial agreements and advised on several aspects of company, Intellectual Property and labour regulations. As a family lawyer, she has represented several clients in their divorce cases.
