I - LEGAL UPDATES

The Delhi High Court urged lawyers to avoid filing frivolous sexual harassment cases, particularly those alleging outraging modesty under Sections 354 and 354B of the IPC. It highlighted the misuse of these provisions in landlord-tenant disputes, expressing concern over the impact of baseless allegations on reputations and legal resources. The court quashed cross FIRs, imposing costs to deter future misuse of legal processes.
The Supreme Court overruled a Madras High Court ruling, asserting that merely storing child pornography is an offense under the POCSO Act. The Court emphasized that failing to delete or report such material implies intent to share it. This decision highlights the seriousness of child exploitation and calls for legislative amendments.
The Supreme Court ruled that the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act applies to all women in India, regardless of religion or social background. It dismissed the husband’s plea to revoke a final maintenance order and clarified that modifications under Section 25(2) only apply to future changes, not retrospective relief.

II - Exploring Intersections

A recent incident of sexual harassment involving a delivery person highlights safety concerns for women in atypical workplaces. The case raises questions about the applicability of the POSH Act, emphasizing the need for employers to update policies to protect employees and customers.

Here's your weekly food for thought through a Fun Fact or Quiz.

Did you know?
Did you know that bisexuality doesn’t mean being equally attracted to more than one gender? In fact, most bisexual people don’t experience a 50/50 split in their attractions. Some may prefer one gender over another, and these preferences can even shift over time. Bisexuality is about the capacity to be romantically or sexually attracted to more than one gender—not necessarily at the same time, in the same way, or to the same degree. This attraction can vary, with some people feeling romantic towards one gender and physically attracted to others. Remember, there’s no rush in defining your identity—everyone’s experience is unique.

Curious Cat: What is eggshell parenting, and why should it be avoided?

Answer: Eggshell parenting is a term popularized by Dr. Kim Sage on TikTok. It refers to a parenting style where a parent’s unstable moods and unpredictable behavior make a child feel like they are constantly “walking on eggshells.” The child becomes hypervigilant, uncertain of what might trigger their parent’s emotional outbursts. Mental health experts warn that this style can cause confusion, insecurity, and emotional harm, even if the parent doesn’t intend to parent this way. To avoid eggshell parenting, practice self-regulation, seek therapy for past issues, maintain consistent emotional responses, and foster open communication with children.
