I - LEGAL UPDATES

The Companies (Accounts) Second Amendment Rules, 2025 mandate disclosures on sexual harassment cases and maternity benefit compliance in Board Reports. This promotes workplace transparency, reinforces gender-sensitive corporate governance, and embeds women’s rights into legal reporting. The changes advance accountability, encourage safer workplaces, and support gender equality across India’s corporate sector.
The Supreme Court ruled that extended retirement benefits must apply to all benchmark disabilities, not just visual impairment. It upheld the appellant’s right to serve until November 4, 2019, when the policy was withdrawn. The decision reinforces equality under disability laws, ensuring fair treatment across all recognized disability categories.
The Kerala High Court ruled that denying public employment to a Hepatitis B-positive candidate violates Article 14 of the Constitution. Overruling an earlier judgment, the Court held that medical fitness must consider universal precautions and not stigmatize conditions like Hepatitis B. The employer was directed to issue an appointment letter promptly.

II - Exploring Intersections

Pondicherry University has launched a free UPSC coaching initiative for persons with disabilities, offering expert training, 24×7 accommodation, and a monthly stipend. Sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice, it reflects a vital step toward true inclusion in mainstream opportunities. Application deadline extended to June 10.
We highlight the importance of addressing men’s mental health. It challenges harmful stereotypes like “”man up”” and “”boys don’t cry,”” emphasizing that emotions are human, not gendered. The post encourages open conversations to break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. To delve deeper into this topic, visit our LinkedIn page.

Here's your weekly food for thought through a Fun Fact or Quiz.

Did you know that neurodivergent persons are 3 to 4 times more like to face sexual assault or abuse? In a heart-wrenching incident, recently two autistic siblings were subjected to abuse at the hands of an internal staff at a Dehradun school. Often neurodivergent adolescents struggle with cognitive, social and communication differences. This can hinder their ability to communicate their experiences, and lead to further social isolation. It is important to educate parents, peers, educators and other stakeholders about the lived experiences of neurodivergent teenagers, so that such incidents can be minimized.
