With over 10 years of volunteering experience and 6 years of diverse professional experience in social work, women’s advocacy, and law, Adv. Farzeen Khambatta has dedicated herself from an early age to empowering and uplifting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children.  

She is a legal professional and a practicing advocate, having obtained a Bachelor’s in Law from K.C. Law College, University of Mumbai and a Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Women Centered Practice from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from K.C. College, University of Mumbai. 

Throughout her journey, she has consistently engaged in volunteer efforts and pivoted it towards a career that seeks to make meaningful change by providing socio-legal support to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Her efforts have extended to organizing and conducting training and awareness sessions for law enforcement and medical professionals on matters concerning gender-based violence, and child sexual abuse. She has also collaborated closely with various NGOs and shelter homes to rehabilitate women and children affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse. She has worked on cases pertaining to domestic violence, dowry, burns victims, custody of children and POCSO at Sion Hospital, KEM Hospital (Parel), Nair Hospital (Mumbai Central), and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital (Kalwa).  

Currently, she is as an Associate at Equilibrio Advisory LLP, where her responsibilities include: 

    • At POSHequili: Acting as External Member for organizations across sectors, assisting IC in conducting inquiry into POSH complaints and creating awareness amongst employees, managers, leadership and building capacities among IC members on legalities and behavioral aspects under the POSH Law.  
    • At Child Safety at Work: Her role involves generating awareness through trainings on the topic of child safety, understanding child sexual abuse and factors influencing vulnerabilities of a child.  

She believes in constantly upskilling herself and have undertaken certificate courses on Sexuality and Gender Rights that explores the conceptual study of sexuality and its links to rights, gender, and health Comprehensive Care of Survivors of Child Abuse, Impact of Mandatory Reporting under POCSO Act 2012. 

In addition to her social work background, Farzeen has gained exposure to Taxation Laws, Constitutional Writs, Civil Litigation and Commercial Litigation as an Advocate at the Bombay High Court.

Worked as a member of the Field Work team to support the creation of the Study by TISS' Center for Criminology and Justice and ActionAid-India.

POCSO on the Ground" report for UNICEF:

Contributed as a Working Group member to analyze and address the implementation of child protection policies at the grassroots level.
