I - LEGAL UPDATES

The Prajwal Revanna controversy
highlights privacy violations and
judicial gag orders against media.
After explicit videos of Revanna
sexually assaulting women surfaced,
multiple charges were filed against
him. This case raises significant
concerns about privacy, media
freedom, and judicial intervention,
emphasizing the need for balanced
enforcement of privacy laws and
media regulations.

The Supreme Court permitted
disabled candidates to attend
interviews for Madhya Pradesh
Judicial Services if they meet the
SC/ST minimum marks criteria. This
ruling followed a suo motu case
addressing the exclusion of visually
impaired candidates from judicial
positions, emphasizing the need for
inclusivity and fair treatment in
judicial appointments.

The Supreme Court rejected a 20-
year-old woman’s plea to terminate
her 30-week pregnancy,
emphasizing the fetus’s right to life.
Despite her mental and physical
health concerns, the court upheld the
24-week limit for abortions under the
Medical Termination of Pregnancy
Act, as the fetus had no
abnormalities.

II - EXPLORING INTERSECTIONS

The Maternity Benefits Act, 1961,
and its 2017 amendment aim to
protect women’s rights and wellbeing during and after childbirth.
Employers must comply with
provisions such as 26 weeks of paid
leave, medical allowances,
protection against dismissal, and
crèche facilities. Non-compliance
can result in legal consequences.

Did you know?

AI has the potential to help organizations identify and address biases in their
processes, but it can also perpetuate or even exacerbate existing biases if not
carefully designed and implemented. Therefore it is important to integrate
diversity and inclusion principles into AI development to ensure equitable
outcomes for all individuals, regardless of their background or characteristics.

Curious Cat: What is the difference between Equitable Policy and
Inclusive police? Are they mutually exclusive?

Answer: Fairness and impartiality are the main goals of equitable policies,
which guarantee that all people have equal access to opportunities and
resources. Conversely, inclusive policies place a strong emphasis on fostering
an atmosphere in which each person feels appreciated, respected, and
empowered to share their distinct viewpoints. While they have distinct focuses,
they are not mutually exclusive; ideally, equitable policies promote inclusion by
removing barriers and fostering diversity.
