On 18th June 2021, Delhi High Court after seeing the massive destruction and loss of so many lives in the capital, took cognizance of the issue. The Court took suo motu cognizance about the massive violations of the SOP and COVID 19 protocols in overcrowded Delhi markets, soon after the unlocking of Delhi. So in keeping the view of current situation, The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to both Centre Government and Delhi Government. The court said, “The memory of the second wave has not left us, yet people behave in this manner. This is very unfortunate.”
The court also took notice of the images that are being shared through social media platforms, which clearly showed that people are not wearing masks and are not following the social distancing norms in crowded places such as marketplace. The court observed that the second wave is not over yet and in order to prevent more spread of the Coronavirus, there is an urgent need to make stricter laws. Thus the court directed the government to deploy civil defence and police in market place and other crowded places to ensure that social distancing is followed and people are wearing masks. The report of the said decision and government’s plan of action must be submitted by 7th July 2021.
