I - LEGAL UPDATES

The Nashik Sessions Court refused regular bail to an accused charged with offences involving an alleged false promise of marriage, caste-based atrocities, sexual exploitation, and attempts to coerce the complainant into religious conversion. Holding that the allegations were grave and supported by prima facie material, the Court found a significant risk of witness intimidation and evidence tampering, warranting continued custody until the evidence of material witnesses is recorded.

The Madras High Court upheld the conviction of an accused for repeatedly subjecting three minor girls to aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act, reaffirming that credible testimony of child victims can independently sustain a conviction. The Court also reiterated that delayed disclosure, minor inconsistencies, or the absence of significant medical injuries do not undermine an otherwise reliable prosecution case, while examining the principles governing the imposition of the death penalty.

The Madras High Court held that following the amendment to Fundamental Rule 101(A), women government servants in Tamil Nadu having more than two surviving children are entitled only to twelve weeks’ paid maternity leave for a third child. The Court ruled that statutory amendments implementing binding Supreme Court precedent prevail over earlier High Court decisions and must be uniformly applied by all authorities.

Did you know that Delhi has recently opened its first all-women police station in Subzi Mandi? This significant initiative marks a crucial step in addressing the challenges women and children often face when reporting violence. While laws provide a framework, true safety extends beyond policy to ensuring individuals feel believed, heard, protected, and can approach law enforcement without fear.

This new station, staffed entirely by women and focusing on sensitive crimes like domestic violence and sexual assault, aims to create a more gender-sensitive policing system. This all-women police station is designed to be a model for improved handling of crimes against women, fostering an environment where they can come forward more confidently. They will also hold awareness campaigns and outreach efforts regarding issues faced by women in the surrounding region. This move signifies a commitment to making safety a tangible reality, not just a legal statute.

Curious Cat:
Why is Mae Martin’s series “Feel Good” a good place to explore themes of addiction?

Answer:
It is Alcohol Awareness Week, and conversations around addiction can often become mired with stigma and shame. This is why, the series “Feel Good” feels like such a refreshingly honest take on addiction.

The British comedy-drama, created by Martin and Joe Hampson, is a semi-autobiographical love story following Mae’s relationship with George, a repressed, middle-class English woman. But underneath the romance and the laughs lies something far more “layered” a candid look at addiction, gender identity, and the messy work of accepting yourself. Drawing directly from Martin’s own life, the show doesn’t sanitize recovery or turn it into a redemption arc. Instead, it captures how addiction quietly affects relationships, trust, and self-image, without ever losing its warmth or wit.

It’s proof that stories about addiction don’t need to be heavy-handed to be honest just human, funny, and unafraid to sit with discomfort. That’s what makes it worth watching this weekend: it treats a nuanced, often stigmatized subject with empathy rather than judgement.
Here’s all the tools you need to build safe and equitable workspaces! Drop us a Hey, to get started!
